The Website Is Up and Running

ok, my real estate website is up and running. I want some feedback. It's not really done yet. There's still some information I need to add to it, but the basic part of it is done. How do you feel about the "look" of it? I didn't want anything too cheesy. Most real estate websites have things like a field of flowers or some crap like that.

If you think it needs to be brighter and cheerier, I can do that.

Let me know

the web address is www.trentboarnet.com

see ya later,

My first open house

I'm holding an open house for an other Realtor this weekend. He has been a client of mine at the salon for about five years and he's one of the reasons I chose Keller Williams. He has been extremely successful and hope I learn alot from him. I hope I get lots and lots of people coming through because it can be a good way to generate leads. It can also be a colosal waste of time. Only time will tell.

The weather is less than perfect this weekend so we'll have to wait and see how things work out.

I got a new picture taken for my business cards. I rarely like how I photograph, but this one turned out pretty good.

All Teachers Will Appreciate This

this video is about 3 minutes long but I think it's worth the time.

7-11-07..... My Lucky Number!

Good News! I passes my state exam this morning. Yay!

I have decided to work with Keller Williams, North Central office in San Antonio. As soon as I get my business cards printed up I'll give them out to everyone.

Ask your friends if they, or anyone they know, are thinking about buying or selling. I'd love to get their names and phone numbers so I can give them a call and talk to them about it.

Roux Madness

Ok, so a few days ago Mark and I were watching this show on the Food Network about gumbo.

The hardest (or most time consuming and labor intensive) part of making gumbo is making the roux. Alton Brown, the host of a very good show, showed me a way to take all the labor out of making the roux.

Let me preface this technique by saying that you must have a pot without plastic handles for this technique to work. Luckily we have a heavy duty set of Calphelon. Some pots say their handles are heat resistant but check thoroughly so you don't wind up with melted plastic on the floor of your oven.

You mix together the flour and oil in your pot. Alton says to use a cast iron dutch oven but we don't have one of those so we used a large stock pot. Place the pot in a 350 degree oven, on the center rack, uncovered, for 1 1/2 hour, stirring a couple of times during that time.

This technique worked like a charm. I didn't get the dark brick color that he achieved in that time, so we let ours go a little longer. In retrospect, I could have let it go even longer.

A fact I wasn't aware of is that the darker the roux gets, the lesser it's thickening power for the final gumbo. Therefor we added a couple of tablespoons of File at the very end to help it out.

One more note: If anyone knows where in the world (besides the coast) I can find shrimp with the heads still on them, let me know. Even Central Market didn't have any. What is this world coming to???

Happy Pugday

Yesterday Mark and I went to the San Antonio Pug Meetup. They meet on the first Saturday of the month, but we never get to go because it's at 4 and I have to work until 5. Anyway, we took Jake and he had a great time. I posted a few pictures and two short videos.

This is Jake looking very patriotic!

You can see Jake playing with his girlfriend in the second video.

As you can tell from the second video, Jake has fallen for a girl from the "wrong side of the tracks". Just look at the way she's dressed! Her skirt is too short and her top is too tight. I thought we raised him right but obviously he's having a bit of rebellion. If he thinks he's bringing HER to Shabbat dinner in THIS house, he's got another think coming! I don't even think she's Jewish. He's a typical male..... Any young attractive pug comes along and shakes her hips around and he's madly in love. Go figure. I hope he grows out of this!!

This Di Adelman. I went to Sunday school with her husband. She's one of the organizers of the Pug meetup.

Here's Mark with a strange pug.

This poor baby couldn't keep his tongue in his mouth.

This pug lives in our neighborhood. His mama desses him up alot. Here we see him wearing a bomber jacket with fur collar.

Lost Maples State Park

Today Mark and I took a day trip to Lost Maples State Park. It's a very pretty drive, especially since we've had so much rain. Everything is very green but there weren't many flowers blooming. =(

I posted all the pictures on my Kodak Easy Share website but I'm not sure who looks at that, so I put a few on here, PLUS a video of a very pretty crawdad I saw feeding in the stream.

Our friend Tricia said it looks really hot in the pictures, but actually it was a beautiful day. I'd say it was about 85 degrees outside and we were in partial shade most of the time.

You can click on any of the pictures below to get a better look. Press 'back' on your browser to return to the blog.

The tiny speck in the center of that big rock is Mark.
Me and Mark in the picnic area. The picture is a little slanted because I had to set the camera on the roof of the car =)

Ahh. puffy white clouds. A marked change from the abundance of dark, gloomy clouds we have had lately.

Mark taking a breather.
These are some teeny tiny mushrooms. They were about two centimeters high but with my macro-zoom they focused really well.
A happy lizard.
These two are pictures of some cool yellowish orange moss (or what I think is moss). The little buds are literally about 4 millimeters high but with the macro zoom I got them in focus. I've never seen anything like them. HMmmmmm

Mard taking another break. We took a long hike. This was the point where we turned around and headed back to the car.

4th of July Party

Petra, my boss, threw a wonderful 4th of July party for the staff. We had a great time. She had it at her boyfriend's house in Garden Ridge. We had more food than we could have possibly eaten in 3 parties. I included some pictures.

First is a picture of Mark and Me, next a picture of the buffet before everyone else showed up, and then a picture of our skin care specialist, her husband (the ones in bathing suits) and some friends.

When we got home we watched some fireworks on TV for about 20 seconds. They aren't nearly as spectacular on TV, but with the weather being as unpredictable as it is, we didn't want to commit to attending any in person.

Today we went to the Botero exhibit at the San Antonio Museum of Art. I liked it, but they were doing alot of new installations in the rest of the the museum so we couldn't see anything else. =(

We also got a couples massage today at a new spa in our neighborhood. It was really nice. I will definitely go back again.

July 3rd

I took my Real Estate test today. The good news is I passed my national test. The bad news is I didn't pass the Texas specific portion. I missed it by one question. DOH! I will take the Texas portion again next week, probably Wednesday.

We are going to a party tomorrow that the owner of the salon is throwing. It should be interesting. I'll tell you all about it in the next post.

Happy July

Here are some pictures of Blue with Mark

Jake is still the cutest dog EVER!

July 2nd

Happy July everyone. Time has been flying by!

I am taking my Real Estate exam tomorrow. Wish me luck. Mark took the GRE last saturday and he said he did pretty good. It's scored similar to the SAT (from back in highschool) except there is an essay portion. Is there an essay portion to the SAT now??

We are baby sitting Blue this week while Jack and Jody are on vacation in Cozumel. So far he's getting along with the kids pretty good. He and Jake like to rough-house a little more than I'm comfortable with since jake is so small, but he seems to be enjoying himself. Blue is obviously accustomed to waking up early with Jack because this morning he started barking/crying at about 5:45. Lets hope he gets over that REALLY quickly.

I took this week off for my vacation time and Mark is taking off Wednesday through Monday. We're going to my company 4th of July party, and on Thursday we are getting a couples-massage. OOOoooohh AAAahhhhhh! We might take a day trip on Friday or Saturday depending on the weather.

I'll let you know tomorrow how the exam went. Hopefully I will have good news!!
