One More Thing

For all my non-family friends who have been afraid to leave tacky comments on here because they are afraid my family will see them, fear not, I have set the blog to email me any new comments before they are posted! Then I can weed out the inappropriate ones=). That means YOU Chris.

Monday excitement

I haven't posted anything new in over a week so i figured I had better write something. We had a very nice weekend. We saw two excellent movies. The first one is called Pan's Labyrinth. It is written and directed Guillermo Del Toro. That's Benicio's brother. It's an AWESOME movie. We highly recommend it. It's in Spanish with English subtitles. We also saw Notes On A Scandal. It was really good also. Miss Judy does a fantastic job as an obsessive old lesbo. If you have to choose, see Pan's Labyrinth. You wont see another one like this for a while!

We had a shed built in the back yard today. We went to Lowes and bought one of the ones they have displayed in the parking lot.... you've all seen them. The man showed up today at 6:30am ready to work. I figured that most of the pieces would be prefabricated - WRONG. He built the whole thing from scratch. He did, however, precut the lengths of wood so he didn't do any sawing.. just nailing. Lots and lots of nailing. This thing would have taken me 2 weeks to put together but he did it in 7 hours (without a break). It's huge. The new shed is bigger than our guest room. Plus it has a storage loft for rarely used items, and solar powered lighting. Fancy Shmancy. I'm going to build a work bench in there so I have a place to work on my little projects. Now we'll have an official guest bedroom instead of an indoor storage room. Next time the California Boarnets are in town, they can take turns sleeping over with us.

The next thing we have to do is paint it to match the house. Right now it's beige with white trim and dark brown shingles. The smaller shed we already had is sort of greenish-bluish. We're going to paint them both so they all match. I'll add pictures once all the painting is done.

here fishy fishy fishy.........

Mark and I went fishing this morning. It was our first attempt and the fish were not cooperative at all. We tried live worms, plastic worms, and several different types of lures but we didn't even get a bite. Our theory is that the recent cold weather has confused the fish and they didn't recognize delicious food when they saw it. That's our story and we're sticking to it!

Actually we've figured out that when fishing in a lake, to get to the areas where the fish are plentiful you really need to use a boat, so we think we'll rent one next time. I think we plan on going to Canyon Lake next Sunday and give it a whirl.

Now we're going to the gym. See y'all later.

Winter Wonderland - - Sorta

Here is Mark in his new Chevy Colorado.

Not a sight you see every day in San Antonio.

Crazy Weather

I know I need to post a picture of Mark and the new truck but I haven't gotten around to it. I promise to do that as soon as the weather clears up..

Speaking if the weather, It's a nasty day in San Antonio. It is now 12 noon on Tuesday and it's 29 degrees and icy outside. All my clients canceled today so Petra called me and told me to stay home. Unfortunately it's not supposed to be any better tomorrow. We'll see how things go.

Mark mentioned to me a few weeks ago that he would like to go fishing sometime. As of this minute we have not actually put a hook in the water in the hopes of catching something but we HAVE been to the Bass Pro Shop and we are probably the best equipped fishermen in Bexar county. We have very nice rods and reels, a well stocked tackle box, and books for beginner fishermen. Hopefully as soon as the weather clears up we will make our first outing. Several of the local lakes and rivers were recently stocked with trout. The bass fishing is also supposed to be good around here also.

Here is a picture of the dogs with their winter coats on.

A pile of sleeping dogs.

Cowboy Up!

That's what they say at the rodeo when the cowboy gets on the bull. Apparently that's what I will be saying to Mark when he gets in his new truck. Yes, you heard me right. Tonight we bought a new truck. Mark got a silver Chevy Colorado Crew Cab. It's really sweet. I'm glad he finally bought something nice for himself. He's always buying me nice gifts but he never seems to get any substantial for himself.

We are going to the SA Rodeo next month. Mark surprised me tonight with tickets to see LeAnn Womack. We are also going to see Willie Nelson on a different night. Mark is going WAY cowboy on me but I sorta like it.

Lets compare.... today I surprised Mark by buying a new lamp for the living room, and he surprised me by buying a new truck. I think he won.

On other news we bought a new shed for the backyard which should be installed in a few weeks. It's a big one. 10 x 10 x 10. It's sort of barn-like. I'm going to build a work bench inside so I have a place to work on my little projects. It's going to be equipped with solar lights so I can do stuff at night if I want to. I'm pretty handy around the house. I like building and fixing things. Now we will actually have a guest bedroom instead of an indoor storage room. We have been discussing other home improvements but it's all so expensive that we might wait until next year before we do anything more invasive, like expanding our bedroom and adding a second bathroom.

How is everyone else doing??

I'll post a picture of Mark with his truck tomorrow....

A Happy Day

Good news: Mark is feeling much better. He went back to work part of a day on thursday and all day today. He's still laying on the heating pad when he's home and trying to rest up, but he's recovering very nicely.

We are supposed to see a play tomorrow at the San Pedro Playhouse but Mark's not sure how his back will do if he sits in that kind of chair for hours on end, so I think we're going to try to change them to next weekend. It is a play called I Am My Own Wife. It's about a German transvestite who lived in Nazi Germany and under the communist regime in East Germany. As strange as the story sounds, it's supposed to be really good. We'll let you know.....

Speaking of entertainment, on Christmas Day we saw Dreamgirls. I was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to all the hype. Usually movies that get that much promotion disappoint me but this one was great. I recommend it.

I bought a dart board today and hung it in the office. Back in my drinkin' days I always enjoyed a good game of darts and for some reason today I felt like getting my own board. To my surprise I'm still pretty darn good. Anytime any of you come over, you're challenged to a game.

The Spurs are playing right now and we're kicking butt. I'm going to watch the game now.

I hope to get some comments from you all..

A day with the doctor

Today wasn't the best. When we woke up, Mark's back was even worse than yesterday and he told me that he needed to see the doctor today. I called my boss at around 6:30am and told her I wouldn't be coming to work. Off we went to to see Dr. Leos. Luckily after having an x-ray and getting a thorough exam, she said that it wasn't anything in the spine itself, but he was having severe muscle spasms in the lower back which was causing extreme pain. He got a shot of Tordol which is a hard core muscle relaxer and he's taking some oral muscle relaxers and vicatin as well. He probably strained his lower back doing some new exercises at the gym, but who knows for sure.....

We got home from the doctor around 1 and he's been in bed ever since. He occasionally wants to get up and walk around and that requires me helping him in and out of bed. The fun part is when he needs to go potty and I have to help him with that also. I guess this is good training for when we're old and in a nursing home.

Tonight he seems somewhat better. He got up on his own and came into the living room to see what I was doing. Now he's back in bed watching tv. I hope he's better tomorrow because I need to get back to work and make some $$$.

Lets hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

Let me back up.....

Before I post pictures from the holidays, let me describe what events transpired.

Both of my brothers came to New Braunfels for the holidays. My older brother, Marlon, lives in Irvine California with his wife Barbara and and his three children, Harrison, and twins Michela and Jacob. My younger brother Darren came with his wife Nicole and children Ian, Alex and Daniel from Houston.

My sister Jody lives here in SA with her husband Jack and their dog Blue.

My parents live in New Braunfels, and my grandmother, Meme, lives a few houses down from them.

----------------------------------------------

On Christmas Day Mark and I went to Mark's sister Betty's house for lunch with her fiance James. We had a very nice time.

Here is Jody and Darren with Baby Daniel

On the first day God created Heaven and Earth.... and a new blog... like the world needs another one....

Hi everyone.

I (Trent) saw the California Boarnet's today at the salon. They all came in for their annual San Antonio haircuts. It's always nice when they come by for a visit.

Mark has been pitiful for the last two days. He threw his back out again but this time doesn't seem to be as bad as the last. He's trying to lay down on a heating pad as often as possible. He's not sure how he hurt it this time but I have a feeling it was from twisting when he took off his new cowboy boots.

Speaking of cowboy boots, Mark is going to sign us up for horseback riding lessons. We found a place just north of the airport that seems ok. I'm not sure what qualifications to look for in a horseback riding school but I guess he does. I have always wanted to try to ride a horse and I guess my time has come. Mark also mentioned wanting to buy a truck but I think that was just a passing thought.

Mark has purchased tickets for us to see Willie Nelson at the San Antonio Stock Show And Rodeo. We wanted to go to the big finale night with Jack and Jody but Mark said we wouldn't be sitting by them so I didn't think that sounded like very much fun. I think Willie sounds fun.

As soon as I figure out how to do it, I will be posting pictures from the holidays.
